Getting
here:
There are two airports that serve Rome: Fumichino and Ciampino.
The closest (about 20 mins drive) is Ciampino (Fumichino is
about an hour and a half away in traffic!).
Nearest
shop:
A small (basic) grocery shop is a 5 minutes' walk away. Walk
out of the apartment front gates, turn right up the steep hill
to the top. Cross over the road into the road opposite at the
staggered cross roads, following the road round to the right
(50m) and the shop is on the right hand side, in between the
'Fungho' restaurant and a bar.
Nearest
Supermarket:
SMA supermarket. (About 2km by car) At the top of the steep
hill turn right and follow the one way road all the way down
to the traffic lights. Go straight over until you come to the
next set of traffic lights. SMA supermarket is just after the
lights on the right.
General
maintenance:
For ease of maintenance and to keep the building cool, all floors
are tiled with the tasteful use of terracotta, granite, stone
or ceramic tiles. To allow air to circulate freely throughout
the apartment it is advised you use the door wedges provided
to prevent doors slamming shut in the cool breeze.
Security:
All external windows and doors have security shutters and
the condominium is protected by an alarm system. Additionally
all interior doors are lockable.
Car
Park Gates:
The electronic gates are operated by inserting a key into the
receptor on the gate post. A similar receptor is located on
a nearby post inside for exit from the secure carpark. The condo
has 2 reserved car parking spaces.
Public
Transport:
There are three railway
lines from Rome to the Castelli (Frascati, Albano and Velletri
respectively) and the area is well served by the excellent Cotral
buses, which leave from Anagnina bus station at the end of metro
line A.
The problem with the Cotral buses is that no official schedule
is published, though times are posted on a board near the ticket
office at the Anagnina interchange. The buses depart from numbered
bays (known as marciapiedi) on the upper level; at each bay
is a board with times of return buses from the farthest point
of each line. On weekdays there is frequent service on all the
lines serving this part of Latium, but beware of Sundays and
holidays, when buses may be few and far between. They are also
much less frequent in summer (mid-June to mid-September).
A
daily travelcard known as a B.I.R.G. (Biglietto Integrato Regionale
Giornaliero) allows unlimited travel on both bus and train throughout
the area, which falls into Zone B of the Latium travel system.
The ticket costs approximately 4 Euros and also covers the city
Metro and buses.
Out
and about:
The
area is set amid a rural landscape with an abundance of vineyards
which make the famous Frascati wine. Grottaferrata and neighbouring
Frascati town are both steeped in history (as indeed is the
whole of the surrounding area). We have therefore included a
few few links to general interest websites on our links
page which may be useful to you.
